A Marvel in Marble

Mitevski carves abstract and figurative life-forms, such as leaves, feathers, cobwebs, honeycombs, as well as natural patterns and ethereal shapes. One of the hallmark elements of his sculptures is the finely entwined three-dimensional curves in marble, which leave us marveling at the artist’s ability to gently shape stone into intricate, living flows.

He prefers marble and feels a special connection to it, but he also enjoys working with onyx and travertine. Although large sculptures require heavy-duty machinery, Andrej loves the intimacy of hand tools, especially when working on delicate details.
"I try to elicit the tenderness of the stone," says this Stone Whisperer, "The stone speaks to me, and I listen. It tells me the shape it wants to become, where to cut, and how to work with it."

International Exposure

Andrej has participated in numerous sculpture symposiums worldwide, including Japan, China, Taiwan, Brazil, Argentina, Egypt, UAE, Italy, Luxemburg, Lithuania, Romania, Greece, Turkey, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Bosnia, and Macedonia.
Saatchi Art and ArtParks, two global online art galleries, feature the artist and his sculptures.

Life

Andrej is a curious spirit, always eager to experiment with forms, materials and life paths. Alongside sculpting, he has successfully pursued several related professions, including teaching sculpture as a visiting professor in the schools of fine arts in the Macedonian universities of Skopje and Shtip, working as an artist designer for the Carnival Studio Azzuri in Foiano, Italy, serving as an arts project manager in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and working as a scenographer for the Macedonian National Opera House. He has also designed awards for multiple film and theater festivals, engaged in interior design, and explored other creative endeavors.

Andrej lives and works in his hometown, the Macedonian capital of Skopje. In 1999, he graduated with honors from the Macedonian Faculty of Fine Arts, where he also earned his Master’s degree in sculpture in 2002. He continues to develop his original ideas and he selectively accepts private commissions.
